What are the Types of breast lift & breast lift surgery?

  • Peri-Areola Lift
  • Crescent Lift
  • The incision of the inverted T Lift
  • Inverted T Lift
  • Vertical Lift

The most common breast lift procedure involves making an anchor-shaped incision that wraps around the areola, the base of the breast, and along the crease under the breast. Remove loose skin and excess tissue, and raise the nipple if necessary. The time required for surgery depends on the lift required, and the individual patient.

The process starts with an initial consultation that takes place between the patient and the surgeon. During this session, the surgeon at The Nova Clinic will ask you questions about your reasons to undergo surgery and the results you expect to achieve. Other than that, they will also clear any doubts or concerns you have related to the surgery. So, feel free to ask any question that you may have about the procedure, technique or after-care.

The doctor will also perform different tests a few days prior to the surgery to determine if the surgery is safe for you.

Breast lift is performed under general anesthesia and takes about two hours to complete.

First, the surgeon will make an incision, according to the chosen technique, to remove excess skin, reshape the breast tissue and lift the nipple to a higher position. The surgeon may also reduce the size of the areola to suit your new breast size and shape.

If you have decided to have a breast augmentation or breast reduction while having a breast lift to achieve the desired look, the procedure may take longer to combine these surgeries.

After finishing the procedure, your surgeon will close the incisions with sutures and wrap your breasts in a supportive garment or a special bra to stop the weight of your breasts from pulling on your healing wounds.

Surgeons usually cover breasts with gauze after a breast lift surgery. The patient is also required to wear a surgical support bra. In some cases, surgeons place small tubes at the incision sites to drain excess fluid or blood.

After the surgery, the breasts are swollen and bruised for almost two weeks. It’s normal to feel soreness and pain during this period at the site of the incision, particularly during the first two weeks. Patients also experience numbness in breast skin, nipples and areola for about six weeks. Doctors recommend medication to alleviate the pain.

The patient is asked to follow these post-surgery care tips for a quick recovery:

  • Avoid lifting heavy objects or taking part in strenuous activity.
  • Sleep on your side or back.
  • Avoid intimate activities with your partner for about two weeks.
  • Wear the surgical support bra for three or four days, depending on your doctor’s recommendations. It should be followed by a soft support bra, which should be worn for about three to four weeks.
  • Avoid sun exposure to your breasts during the healing period.

Your breasts will feel very firm and swollen and look discolored immediately after the procedure. If you feel any pain or discomfort, you can take over-the-counter pain medications.

You will need to take two to three weeks off your work after breast lift surgery and avoid lifting heavy objects for several weeks and intercourse for two weeks. You will be able to do some light exercising and activities after two weeks and go back to your normal activities by six weeks.

Contact your surgeon or GP if:

  • your wound is painful
  • the area around your wound feels hot and swollen
  • your wound looks red or starts to form pus
  • you have a high temperature

Soluble stitches will dissolve in the few days following your surgery. If you have non-dissolvable stitches, they will be removed 10 to 14 days after surgery.
